PROCEDURE PREPARATION SOLUTION
If you are having a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, your doctor and their office should have given you instruction on medicine to take the day before. If you have any questions please call their individual office.
CLEAR LIQUID DIET
Colonoscopies require clear liquid diets on the day prior to the procedure to keep your digestive system as clear as possible. Do not consume any red or purple liquids on this diet.
Foods Allowed
- Tea (decaf or regular)
- Black coffee (decaf or regular)
- Clear carbonated drinks (e.g. seltzer)
- Strained fruit juices (e.g. apple, white grape, lemonade)
- Clear broth
- Clear flavored gelatin (Jell-O)
- Popsicles
- Clear hard candy
- Sugar, honey, syrup, salt
Foods to Avoid
- Milk and milk products
- All solid foods
- All unstrained fruit juice (e.g. orange juice with pulp)
- All red or purple liquids
- All red or purple gelatin
